AI for the Social Good
From 2019, Professor Toni Erskine, Discovery Lead, has served on the Advisory Group for the Google/United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), ‘AI for the Social Good’ Research Network, administered by the Association for Pacific Rim Universities.
She was invited onto the Advisory Group after holding a Google Research Grant in 2017-2018, which she used to begin research on risks associated with AI and automated decision-making in war. One of the rewarding responsibilities in her current Advisory Group role is to provide feedback on the research projects of current Google grant holders.
Professor Erskine was invited to be one of the speakers at the February 2020 ‘AI For Social Good’ meeting in Bangkok, convened by Google, the APRU, and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and address senior government officials from the Asia–Pacific region. This was delayed due to the pandemic.
